"Mobile Training Software... in the palm of your hand."

Frequently Asked Questions

Why would I need GoLearn Fitness software?
Because personal fitness training is a learned skill. It doesn’t happen by chance; it takes a lot of knowledge and practice to get it right.  Proper knowledge helps you make the most of your workouts, exercise safely, and bridge the gap between goals and results.  Personal trainers are great for providing this knowledge, but they are not always available or within budget.  That’s why you need GoLearn Fitness to deliver that same training knowledge whenever and wherever you need it.

Is GoLearn Fitness for me?
If any of these statements apply to you – GoLearn Fitness is definitely for you!
  • I’m new to fitness and don’t know where to start.
  • I’ve been going to the gym forever, but I always do the same thing and have hit a fitness plateau.
  • I’ve always wanted to hire a personal trainer but can’t afford one.
  • My schedule is too random to fit a regular appointment with a personal trainer.
  • I found some exercise fitness software, but I can’t use it to track my progress, customize my workouts, or view full-motion exercise demonstrations.  I still don’t know whether I am exercising in a safe and effective way, and I need help.
  • I’ve been working out for a while but am not sure whether I’m doing it right.
  • I have a personal trainer but can only meet once or twice a week.  I need help between personal training sessions.
  • I have worked out in a gym for years, but I have no idea how to work out at home or when I’m traveling.
  • I purchased exercise-tracking software but it didn’t help me with exercise ideas, tips on form, or workout routine suggestions.

I already work out with a personal trainer, so how does GoLearn Fitness benefit me?
In many ways.  GoLearn Fitness can fill the gaps for you between training sessions.  It also helps you stick with your program when you’re on vacation, on the road for business, or when you choose to work out at home. And, because you can track all of your workouts, GoLearn Fitness is a great communication tool between you and your personal trainer.

Why do I need to customize my workouts?
It is important to follow a fitness program that is based on your own fitness level, the length of time you've been working out, and your goals. Your condition and level should also determine the type of equipment you'll be using (gym machines, free weights, etc.), and whether you should be working out in the home or in the gym doing beginning or experienced work.

GoLearn Fitness software allows you to customize a workout that is just right for you based on your specific needs. Not only do you have many routines to choose from, you also have within each routine tips and suggestions for beginners as well as those for more experienced athletes.

However you choose to work out, it’s critical that you take control of your fitness choices and customize a program to fit your personal needs and desires. In fitness, one size does NOT fit all.

Will I be able to operate and follow GoLearn Fitness?
If you can operate your VCR (not program it!) you can follow GoLearn Fitness.  The video player screen buttons look and respond just like the play, stop, back, and forward buttons of your VCR.  The entire program is delivered with simplicity in mind.  You’ll find that the large buttons and intuitive organization makes this program comfortable for even the least technical-savvy person.  And, to make it just as simple to follow as it is to operate, all of the content is delivered in an easy-to-understand audio and video format.  You will never have to stop what you’re doing to read exercise instructions.  You just watch, listen and follow along.  How simple is that?

If I don’t own a mobile device, will GoLearn Fitness work on my PC?
It sure will.  GoLearn Fitness software is compatible with both Mac and Windows operating systems.  Although you won’t be able to take the software along with you on your workout (unless you have a very long cord), you can still get all of the benefits of fitness instruction, exercise demonstrations, sports psychology, prescribed routines, tracking and logging your activities and more.  When loaded on your PC, GoLearn Fitness is a perfect complement to any fitness routine.

What are the system requirements for using this software?

For iPhone and iPod Touch:
iPhone OS 2.0 and WiFi or 3G Internet access.

If you have the new iPhone 3G, you will have access to high speed Internet through your AT&T phone connection and you are not required to be at a WiFi hot spot. If you have the older iPhone with the 2.0 OS updgrade, you can run the app on the Edge network, but video loading speeds may be slow. On a WiFi network, both the new iPhone 3G and an older iPhone should perform optimally.

Will other workouts be available?
Absolutely. Although, GoLearn Fitness already covers the gamut of traditional exercises, many other types of exercise will be coming.  We plan to offer programs in pilates, yoga, event-training, and more.  We encourage you to keep an eye on our website for product announcements and news about our programs.

Who created GoLearn Fitness?
This product is Erik Florio’s brainchild.  Erik has over a decade’s experience in both fitness training and high-tech business.

When his clients needed a way to follow their fitness programs while away from their trainer, Erik looked to his high-tech experience to develop a solution.  Along with his awesome technical team, Erik came up with the first interactive fitness-training program to use full motion audio and video on a mobile device.  Pretty cool, huh?

In addition to this team are the amazing trainers, Sue Spencer and Terri Schneider, who provide the fitness knowledge and training talent throughout the program.   Between the two of them, Sue and Terri hold more than ten degrees and professional fitness certifications.  And, their credentials extend well beyond their formal training. Terri has successfully completed nearly 100 multi-sport competitive events including twenty-two Iron Man events and eleven EcoChallenges.  Sue has trained hundreds of people in a wide variety of fitness disciplines including strength training, yoga, aerobics, pilates, water aerobics and more.

What general fitness information do I need before I get started?
Before you begin any exercise program, there are several fitness concepts that you should be familiar with.  The next several paragraphs cover many of them.

Vigorous exercise involves minimal health risks for persons in good health or those following a doctor's advice.  According to the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, if you're under 35 and in good health, you may not need to see a doctor before beginning an exercise program. But if you are over 35 and have been inactive for several years, you should consult your physician who may or may not recommend a graded exercise test. Other conditions that indicate a need for medical clearance are: high blood pressure, heart trouble, family history of early stroke or heart attack deaths, frequent dizzy spells, extreme breathlessness after mild exertion, arthritis or other bone problems, severe muscular, ligament or tendon problems, other known or suspected disease.  If you feel ill or uncomfortable as a result of exercise, discontinue immediately and consult your doctor.

It’s a good idea to warm up for at least five minutes before you begin your exercise.  This will increase blood flow, get your body ready for exercise, reduce the risk of injury and help you to train safely. Some recommended forms of warm up include light work on a treadmill, elliptical machine or recumbent bike.  When outdoors, you can begin with a mild jog or bike ride on a flat surface.  After exercise, you should cool down and stretch all muscles that have been worked.

It is important to receive proper instructions when using fitness equipment the first time. When working with weights, be sure to have a spotter or workout partner in case you need their help.  Always use a weight that is challenging, yet allows you to safely complete the intended number of sets.

When using the suggested routines within the GoLearn Fitness program, you should perform the workouts in the order that they are presented using the suggested number of repetitions and sets. When you are following your own program (not using one of the suggested routines) you will typically complete 1-3 sets per exercise.  To determine a good number of reps for you, start with a weight that is challenging enough to be difficult but not impossible to complete the suggested number of reps. For example if you find it easy to do 15 reps with a certain weight then try increasing the weight slightly. If it is too difficult to complete the 15 reps, then decrease the weight slightly.

It is a good idea to give yourself a one-minute rest between sets so your muscles recover enough to complete the remaining sets. If you need more than one minute to recover, go ahead and take it.  Do not rest too long or you’ll waste time and risk not completing the whole workout. If, instead, you feel that you are recovered well before one-minute has passed, you should consider gradually increasing the amount of weight you are using.
